What We’re Reading (Picture of three books)

There’s that secret pleasure in scanning another person’s bookshelf while they’re not looking. It’s like Googling someone; you learn things about them that they may not realize they’re sharing. I acknowledge this pleasure and wish to share it with you, the interested Internet, so I queried the Kalamunists on what they’re reading. Check out the list and get a peek at our mental underbelly.

Matthew Mack is reading:

Nomad by Ayaan Hirsi Ali

"A feminist and author. Pretty interesting book but I have little time to read right now.”

Andrew Mallis is devouring:

Goodnight, Moon by Margaret Wise Brown

Not so good, and the typography is not accessible. Insufficient contrast ratio against a colored background.”

Andrew Ward is inhaling:

Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine

Katy Pool is perusing:

City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty

"It’s pretty cool. It’s like a fantasy novel based on middle eastern mythology. It's actually an advance copy so it doesn’t come out until November.”

Ken Lo is consuming:

The Devil’s Chessboard by David Talbot

"Katy told me to read it.”

John Ouellet:

"I’m watching Game of Thrones.”

I'm Reading:

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

Reminds me that human liberation isn't a linear process and that we could backslide at any moment. This story terrifies me, but it also reminds me that the world is full of sharp, imaginative people who will work hard to change hearts and minds through art.

Crispin Bailey is skimming before bed:

Practical Design Discovery by Dan Brown

What Rob Loach is browsing while drinking Soylent Green liquid product:

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil Degrasse Tyson

Emanuel Geucean's new best friend:

What I Know about Running Coffee Shops by Colin Harmon

On Thiago de Mello Bueno's nightstand:

The Adventures and Misadventures of Maqroll by Alvaro Mutis and Edith Grossman

"It came highly recommended by a good friend.”

Josh Walker is Internetting...

Daring Fireball by John Gruber

"It’s a tech blog, but quite Apple centric. I guess I jibe with his general view of tech and that the Apple ecosystem—while not perfect by any stretch—beats out any alternative. We also have similar taste in cinema and whiskey.”

Esther Vicent's new read:

Just Kids by Patti Smith

"So far, I like it but I also love both [Mapplethorpe + Smith.] I am a Patti Smith fan and I love what Mapplethorpe created in photography. They were the coolest kids in NYC.”

Derek DeRaps is audio-reading:

The History of WWII Podcast by Ray Harris Jr.
